Recensione di Rudy Salvagnini La vicenda si svolge qualche anno prima degli avvenimenti narrati nel primo film della serie, Insidious. Quinn Brenner è una giovane studentessa con l'aspirazione di fare l'attrice. Ha perso la mamma da un anno, per malattia, e vorrebbe contattarla. Per questo si rivolge a Elise Rainier, abile sensitiva, ma Elise - che da poco è vedova e ha subito un terribile trauma durante uno dei suoi contatti con l'aldilà - dopo un breve tentativo fallimentare, rinuncia a proseguire, nonostante provi simpatia e comprensione per Quinn. La avvisa però di non provare a contattare sua madre da sola - cosa che Quinn ha già tentato di fare - perché quando si vuole parlare con uno spirito anche gli altri possono sentire. Dopo l'audizione alla scuola di recitazione, Quinn, in strada, vede uno sconosciuto che la saluta: si distrae e viene investita da un'auto. Rischia di morire e riemerge con varie fratture che la costringono a restare a letto con le gambe ingessate.
