The pirates' captain became uneasy about being found to have the children aboard, and persuaded an England-bound steamer to take on the children, having bound them to support his story that he had in fact saved them from being kidnapped by pirates. However, one of the children, ten-year old Emily broke that promise when she was on the steamer.
